Memorygram vs. Remento: Why More Families Are Choosing a One-Time Purchase Over a Subscription (August 2026)
If you're comparing ways to preserve a loved one's life story, you've probably come across Remento alongside Memorygram. Both companies help families turn spoken memories into a printed, QR-linked keepsake book. But once you look past the surface, the two products work very differently, especially when it comes to price, accessibility, and what happens after year one.
Here's an honest, fact-based look at where Memorygram pulls ahead.
1. One purchase, forever yours. No subscription required.
This is the biggest difference between the two companies.
Memorygram's Legacy Book is a single, one-time purchase. There's no subscription, no auto-billing, and nothing to cancel. Once you buy it, it's yours.
Remento works differently. Its standard package is a $99/year (or $12/month) subscription. That first year includes your prompts and one hardcover book, but if you want your storyteller to keep recording new memories after that year is up, you have to renew. The ongoing choice to "renew or lose the ability to record" is built into their model in a way it simply isn't with Memorygram.
For families who want a gift they never have to think about again, that's a meaningful difference.
How do you gift a subscription? One thing to consider as your purchasing a gift for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Christmas or another holiday is with Remento the card that you purchased with will be auto billed. So by buying someone a gift from Remento you are locking yourself into a recurring subscription.
2. Memorygram is the only memoir company with a real phone-call option included.
Memorygram is the first memoir company that calls and interviews storytellers by phone. A loved one can answer any phone, including a landline, with no internet, no app, and no smartphone required. The automated interviewer asks a question, offers gentle follow-up prompts to help draw out a fuller story, and lets the storyteller call in anytime inspiration strikes.
Remento's recording process requires a device with internet access. Storytellers click a link from a text or email and record on that device. It's designed to be simple, but it still depends on having a smartphone, tablet, or computer with an internet connection. For the grandparent who doesn't own a smartphone or isn't confident on the internet, that's a real barrier that Memorygram's phone feature solves and Remento's does not. Remento offers a phone call option add on at checkout for $25 but it is unclear how the feature works and it adds an additional $25 cost increase to your book purchase.
3. A bigger book, with more room to grow, before any extra fees kick in.
Memorygram's hardcover book is 8.5" x 11", full color inside and out, and can run up to 450 pages, roughly 60 questions with photos, at no extra size surcharge.
Remento's hardcover book is 8" x 10" and includes up to 200 pages in the base price. If a Remento book runs longer than that, a $30 surcharge applies, and books over 380 pages have to be split into two separate volumes.
If your storyteller is the type to really open up, Memorygram's extended page length allows for more stories and smiles.
4. Multi-storyteller books are built in and affordable.
Memorygram makes it easy to create one collaborative book featuring two storytellers, a "Mom & Dad" book, for example, for a flat $50 add-on.
Remento's own FAQ states that Remento is designed for one storyteller per book. Families who want two people's stories together need to purchase separate accounts and separate books.
5. Memorygram is BBB accredited. Remento is not BBB accredited.
Memorygram states it is the only memoir writing service accredited by the Better Business Bureau, citing its American-based operations and customer-service standards. Memorygram is also a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Remento's site highlights its Shark Tank appearance but they are not BBB accredited.

Such a great idea! I’m so glad we found this and am collecting my parents’ stories, in their own word, before it’s too late. I can’t speak to the quality of the book since we haven’t printed it yet, but the platform and process have all been really easy to use. Love it!
My 86 year old father LOVES this. We are still in the process with weekly calls which he loves because even though he can’t find his keys some days , his memory for things going back decades is unrivaled and he will talk for 45 minutes about such detailed things from his past! it’s quite fascinating. We work together to come up with the questions that he would like to answer. We have enough questions to last quite a long time. I don’t have any idea how we’re going to finally be able to edit and put it in a book, but we are enjoying the process. For him it’s perfect to be able to just talk and for it to be recorded.
Very nice platform and features. Support has been very helpful when experiencing issues with features. They are responsive and have taken care of everything I have uncovered. Needed an order that I couldn't place on the site, and they were very helpful in getting it adjusted per my request.

I love the memorial page and the Heart with the QR code is great. Being to scan it and go directly to his page knowing I won’t have to search for it is wonderful. I brought one for each of my parents as well and the loved it.

This was an extra tag I’d purchased after I realized I should’ve gotten two. I could not figure out how to order one on the website so I went to Facebook and sent a message. I got a very prompt response with the help I needed. Within minutes I was able to place my order. I was very impressed and happy with the customer service. I’m also very satisfied with the memorial site I’ve been able to create for my son.

I have ordered books from Memorygram three times. I have found the pages of the books as well as the hardcover to be of extremely high quality, made to last for generations. The website is very user friendly and the customer service exceptional. I would highly recommend this company to anyone wishing to leave a legacy.
I found the Memorygram experience both easy and interesting. It was interesting in that the more I got into answering their question set, the more I remembered events in my life that gave me better insight to respond, It is a very solid product that lets you essentially design the book as you would like your life and experiences presented. The result is a keepsake that can be passed to future generations in a format which is easy for someone to read through. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to express their experiences and thoughts, either with a partner or individually.
I recently had a bench dedicated for my son. The plaque is nice, but I was very happy to see these medallions advertised. I immediately ordered one for the bench. The adhesive seems to be very strong and should last. My only issue has been uploading photos and a video. I figured out the photos but have not had luck with the video. Overall, I love this product and have suggested it to friends.

I adore my dog tags. I made the memorial in honor of my dad, and the tags did not disappoint. Anytime I wanted to show my friends and family, the QR code worked wonderfully. Any problem that I might have had was resolved very quickly. Only thing is I wish you could add more pics at a time but otherwise it is fantastic.
Well, my daughter and I purchased it for my husband for Father's day. He has a lot of history and stories from his military experience, work as a postal executive and just life in general.
