Question: What was the best advice your father ever gave you?
When I think back to my younger days, a vivid memory surfaces of my father and me sitting on our worn-out porch swing, watching the world go by. The sun was setting, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. I had just had a spat with one of my many siblings, and I was feeling particularly downtrodden. Sensing my disheartenment, my father turned to me and said, “Laurie, remember this: It's not about being right or wrong, but understanding and kindness. Our family's strength lies in our unity.” This simple advice became the guiding light of my life.
